2.4L Intake Instructions

FACTORY AIR BOX REMOVAL

Please keep in mind this is not a mass produced product.  It is possible there may be some adjusting to the intake that needs to be done on your part to ensure a good fit but it should be minimal.  Each intake is hand made and we take much pride in our work.  Park your car where it won’t have to be moved for a while.  This should take less than 30 minutes.  During this process you will NOT be able to start your car for any reason.

Step 1:
Disconnect the negative cable from the driver's side strut tower.  It should be a 15MM socket.  See picture:

Step 2:

Remove the nut holding the big black plastic box.  It is an 8MM nut, pictured here:

Step 3:

Remove the crankcase ventilation hose from the factory air intake.  Grab firmly where it attaches to the air hose (Yellow Arrow) and just pull / twist in an upward motion and rotate it upwards out of the way.  There is also a hard plastic 3/8 in. line (Red Arrow) running over the factory intake that connects to the base of the throttle body.  It will need to be pulled off and should move upward and out of your way.  On the end that you pulled off the throttle body base there is a short piece of rubber hose.  Take it off and replace it with the longer 3/8 in. hose that came with the intake.  See picture:

Step 4:
Remove the IAT sensor plug.  Move the red tab in an upward motion with a flathead screwdriver or your finger, it will not come out completely it will only slide back.  Once it’s moved, push in on the black tab directly behind the red tab and carefully unplug the harness from the sensor.  See picture:

Step 5:
Remove the hose clamp holding the air assembly to the throttle body.  See picture:

Step 6:
On the side of the ribbed air box where it meets the air tube there are two big black tabs on either side of the tube going into the air box.  Push them in towards the pipe and this should allow you to pull the air tube apart from the air box and out of the engine bay.  See picture:

Step 7:
Now pull the IAT sensor out of the factory air tube.  It should look something like this next picture.  Grab hold of the sensor firmly and pull straight out.  BE VERY CAREFUL!! Don’t bend from side to side or you will break it.  Put it aside somewhere safe.  Here is a picture:

Step 8:
On the left side of the ribbed air box is a set of plugs attached to the side.  They are attached to a black bracket.  Grab the bracket and pull up.  They should come off easily.  Let them hang around at the bottom of the car for now.  See picture below:

Step 9:
On the backside of the big ribbed air box there is part of a wiring harness that is attached to a bendable metal bracket/tab.  Just lift the harness out of the bracket.  It won’t go far and it won’t attach to the new intake.  The big ribbed box should now come straight up out of the car.  It’s held in by two plug type things on the bottom and will require some strength to pull it out but just pull straight up.  You’re done!

Short Ram Intake Installation

Upon taking your intake out of the box, remove the bag covering the filter.

MAKE SURE NOTHING GETS INSIDE THIS INTAKE DURING ASSEMBLY.  WHEN YOU START YOUR CAR IT WILL GET SUCKED INTO THE THROTTLE BODY AND DAMAGE YOUR CAR!

Protect your new intake finish.  The finish is durable but not impenetrable.  Please be careful.  The intake comes disassembled to aid in installation.

Step 1:
The intake attaches in two locations.  The throttle body and the stud that you took the 8MM bolt off of.  See next picture:

Step 2:
Place the black 90 degree throttle body piece on the throttle body.  See picture below:

There is a hole in the throttle body piece of the intake.  Gently but firmly push the IAT sensor into the hole (Yellow Arrow).  Once the sensor is in, plug the harness back into it and slide the red clip back into place to secure the sensor.  See picture below:

Step 3:
Now attach the longer intake pipe to the throttle body adapter and secure firmly with the enclosed hose clamp.  See picture below:

Step 4:
Now attach the filter and 45 degree coupler to the other end of the pipe in a downward angle towards the front of the car and secure with enclosed hose clamp (where arrow is pointing).  See picture below:

Step 5:
Find the 2 big fan plugs that hung off the left side of the factory air box and hang them on the ECM bracket assembly.  They will fit loose but it won't hurt them to hang loose on the bracket.  Hang them here and then leave them.  That will keep them out of the way.  See picture below:

Step 6:
You may want to take a pair of pliers and squeeze the clip part of the plug mount together so that it grips the bracket and doesn't fall off.  See picture below:

Step 7:
Take the bracket that is attached to the filter and place the hole end over the 8mm stud you removed the factory air box from.  See picture to see what it should look like once mounted.

Step 8:
Reconnect the hard plastic line that attached at the bottom of the throttle body with the new piece of 3/8” hose you attached.

Step 9:
At the front of the car there is a black air director that can be removed.  I recommend using a flathead screwdriver so it can be reinstalled should you have to put it back on (like when you take your car in for warranty work).  Just pull out the round, black plastic push pin in the middle.  See picture below:

Step 10:
Reconnect your battery cable to the strut tower and tighten really well.  This is your main ground for everything in the car so get it tight.  Don’t forget to plug back in the IAT sensor.  This is a common oversight.

Step 11:
The intake should look like this once installed.  These instructions were made using the prototype 2.4L V3 intake.  Some pictures may differ from your intake.

Now make sure all extra parts and tools are out from underneath the hood and start it up!

Take it for a spin and check it out!
