FACTORY AIR BOX REMOVAL
Some of these
pictures are in black and white as we have not had a stock
car for some time and as newer versions of the intakes have
been released we have had to update our instructions.
Please keep in mind this is not a mass
produced product. It is possible there may be some
adjusting to the intake that needs to be done on your part
to ensure a good fit but it should be minimal. Each intake
is hand made and we take much pride in our work.
Park
your car where it won’t have to be moved for a while. This
should take less than 30 minutes. During this process you
will NOT be able to start your car for any reason.
Step 1:
Disconnect the negative cable from the drivers side strut
tower. It's a 15MM socket. See picture:

Step 2:
Remove the nut holding the big black plastic box. It’s an
8mm nut. See picture for nut location:

Step 3:
Next remove the crankcase ventilation hose from the
plastic barb on the OE air tube. Grab firmly and just pull
off slowly. The red arrow is pointing to the vent hose.
Remove it from the factory air box. This changed to 2
separate hoses on the 05 Models. Remove them both if you
have an 05:

Step 4:
Near the throttle
body and plugged into the factory air tube is the IAT
sensor. Remove the IAT plug harness. Move the red tab in
an upward motion with a flathead screwdriver or your finger,
it will not come out completely it will only slide back.
Once it’s moved, push in on the black tab directly behind
the red tab and carefully pull the plug harness off.
Pictured is the IAT sensor:

Step 5:
Remove the hose
clamp holding the air assembly to the throttle body. See
picture:

Step 6:
On the ribbed air
box where it meets the air tube there are two big black tabs
on either side. Push them in towards the pipe and this
should allow you to pull the tube apart from the box. See
picture:

Step 7:
Remove the air tube
from the engine bay. Once removed, pull out the IAT sensor
VERY CAREFULLY. Grab hold of the plug and pull straight
out. Don’t bend from side to side or you will break it. It
will be hard to get out but just keep pulling. You can use
some needle nose pliers to pull it out but be careful. It
will go in the new intake. Put it aside somewhere safe.
Here is a picture:

Step 8:
On the left side of
the ribbed box there are two big plugs attached to the side
of the air box. They are attached to a black bracket and
hang off the side of the air box. Just grab the bracket and
pull straight up. They should come right off. Just let
them hang around at the bottom of the car for now.
Step 9:
The air box should come straight up out of the car with
a little effort. Now put the 8mm nut back on the stud and
tighten it down. You won’t be using it anymore.
+
Now it’s time to put in your new intake.
F-5 Intake
Installation
Upon taking your
intake out of the box, remove the bag covering the filter.
MAKE
SURE NOTHING GETS INSIDE THIS INTAKE DURING ASSEMBLY. WHEN
YOU START YOUR CAR IT WILL GET SUCKED INTO THE THROTTLE BODY
AND DAMAGE YOUR CAR!
Protect your new intake
finish. The finish is a durable powder coating but not
impenetrable. Please be careful. The intake comes
disassembled to aid in installation.
Step 1:
The V5 comes with a 4-ply silicone reinforced throttle body
adapter and is easily installed on the throttle body. Make
absolutely sure this
is on securely but do not over tighten. Once secure, plug
the IAT sensor back in and secure the wire harness to the
sensor. This is what the throttle body adapter should look
like once installed:
Step 2:
Now take a 8mm socket or wrench and remove the bolt shown in
this next picture. Only remove the bolt holding on the
ground wire. Do not remove the lower bolt that secures the
valve cover.

Step 3:
Attach the twisted bracket to stud of the valve cover and
tighten it back down but not tight enough that it won’t
move. It should look like this:

Step 4:
Now insert the F-5 aluminum intake pipe to the throttle body
adapter and secure with one of the supplied hose clamps.
Insert the pipe up to very edge of the F-5 decal. That’s as
far as you want it to go in. Now attach the vent hoses you
removed earlier. This is what it should look like at this
point of installation:

Step 5:
Now install the filter on the end of the pipe only up to the
edge of the F-5 decal. Make sure you have the hose clamp on
the filter and it should also go over the “twisty” bracket
that you installed earlier. Secure tightly. This is what
you should now have:

Step 6:
Last but not least, find the 2 big fan plugs that hung off
the left side of the factory air box and hang them on the
ECM bracket assembly. They will fit loose but it won't hurt
them to hang loose on the bracket. Hang them here and then
leave them. That will keep them out of the way. See
picture below:

Note: If you have an
04-05 and the ECM bracket does not accommodate the plugs you
will need to use a zip tie to secure them to the ECM bracket
but this should not be a big issue as long as they do not
remain just sitting in the bottom of the engine bay.
This is
what the finished product should look like:
econnect your
battery cable to the strut tower and tighten really well but
not enough to strip it out. This is your main ground for
everything in the car so get it tight.
