6000K HID Install – 2008 F150
”Blue150”

HID Kits from eBay seller HID4U – $80.00 Shipped per set – Xentec H13/9008 Headlights & H10/9145 or 9140 Fog Lights

I feel it important to tell you before hand that these are illegal in every state of the good ole USA if they are not stock on the car when you buy it from the dealer. Also, do not judge these lights as “too blue”. Digital cameras cannot capture the true color of HID. These lights are very bright white with a mild hint of blue.

Tools Needed:
2 HID Kits from HID4U
10 – 10” Nylon Ties
Windex or alcohol for cleaning
Philips Head Screwdriver
10MM Socket and Ratchet
4 – RED power taps (pictured below) you don’t need these if you intend to cut the factory harness off.  I strongly recommend against cutting the factory harness.  These instructions make the HID’s completely reversible back to stock.

These are the kits I bought:

INSTALL:
Remove this Philips head plastic screw. Once removed, squeeze the plastic clip from the other side and push it through the top to release it. This will expose 3 – 10MM bolts.  Remove them next.

3 – 10MM bolts.  Remove them next.

Lift gently up on this clip (next picture) and pull the headlight forward to loosen it so the clip will not catch again.  The light will feel stuck. On the bottom is a metal pressure clip that needs to be dislodged. Just grab the light from the front and pull firmly and the light will come out.  You’re not going to break anything.

Now that you have the light out, unplug the turn signal, headlight and side marker lights. Remove the H13 headlight bulb and put the HID bulb in.  DO NOT TOUCH THE GLASS PARTS ON EITHER OF THESE BULBS. THE BULBS WILL EXPLODE OR BURN OUT WHEN YOU TURN THEM ON IF YOU DO!!
The harness will have a brown plug, a small gray plug and a bigger grey plug. You want the bigger grey plug. You will probably have to strip back some of the black tape to reveal the wires. We will start with the drivers side first. Yes, they are different.

The driver’s side headlight plug has three wires.
Green w/black stripe (High Beam- HOT) – Not used for HID

Black (Ground) – Used
Blue w/white stripe (Low Beam- HOT) – Used for HID

You need two wire taps for each side. Use the red ones or they will cut the wires in half. Like these:

You will need 1 of these harnesses from the HID kit for each side: (Cut off the sliver prongs – don not strip to expose wire, leave un-stripped)

Place one wire tap on the black wire of the headlight plug and tap the black wire from the above HID harness into it. Now tap the blue w/white stripe to the red of the HID harness. It will look like this when you’re done.

Now wrap it all in electrical tape like its going out of style! Now it looks like this?

Now comes the unorganized part of these instructions. Do try to keep up. I was excited about having one side done and skipped some pictures. My bad.

Plug the HID ballast (the funky looking black and red wires coming out of the Ballast) into the bulb that you put in the headlight assembly earlier. Red to red and black to blue.  Shove the Ballast through the hole in the frame of the truck behind the headlight (So you can get to it after the light is back in.  Now put the light back in. Start lining the light up with the truck and gently push, the metal clip that came loose below earlier should snap back in place.  Now put the 3 – 10MM bolts back in.  Now on to the ballast!

Plug the gray and blue harness you wired to the factory plug into the ballast. Now turn on the lights and make sure they work.  If they do, move on to the next step!

Mounting the ballast:

I mounted my ballast like the picture below. Be sure to clean the headlight plastic before taping down the ballast. Make sure the ballast sits as flat as possible on the light housing.

Now do the passenger side. The passenger side is the same except the factory plug that you tap into has different colored wires. I have diagramed them below:

Light Green w/black stripe (High Beam- HOT) – Not used for HID
Black (Ground) – Used
Dark Green (Teal) w/orange stripe (Low Beam- HOT) – Used for HID

This is what they look like tapped:

On to the Fog lights!

The fog lights are plug and play.  No need for power taps or knives.

Crawl under the truck and unplug the fog light harness. Remove the factory bulb and put in the HID bulb. Same on both sides.  Now plug the wires from the HID bulb into the HID ballast like with the headlights.  Now plug the factory fog light plug into the ballast.  Turn them on and make sure they work.  This is mine already done.  I cleaned the bumper brace and taped the ballasts to them and then I nylon tied them to the bracket. Just in case.

Here are some pictures of the fog lights in progress.

That is pretty much it.  Here are some before and after pictures for your enjoyment. And no, I don’t get flashed.

Headlight before:

Headlight after:

Fog light before:

Fog light after:

One side before:

One side done:

Now all 4 of them after: Yes, they are all the same color, regardless of what the picture looks like.

If you do these lights you will need to adjust them. They way you aim them up and down is to turn this screw on the back of the lights. Tighten it (clockwise) and they go down. Loosen and they go up. I recommend using a box end wrench as they are easy to strip.

Pictures while driving (Yes, while I was driving) I have them aimed too low in these pictures but you get the gist:

Just Fogs:

Just headlights (they were not quiet warmed up so they were not at peak brightness):

Both:

Driving down the road, both on, still aimed to low:
